Grizzly Waterton Lakes

Description

Captured this young Grizzly Bear (could be a large cinnamon black bear) in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta Canada in September of 2013. We had spent 2 days in Glacier and over 2 weeks on the road through the pacific northwest with zero signs of either black or grizzly bear. On our final day of the vacation we were returning back from Waterton and spotted 5 bears with in a 2 mile zone of the road feeding on the roots and berries in the area. We spotted a mother and cub, just 300-500 yards down the road a male black bear on the same hill side, further down the road maybe a mile a 3rd black bear. As we continued down the road, we spotted a cinnamon colored bear (featured above) feeding on roots and tubes. While watching the Grizzly another black bear moved out from the treeline on a hill top behind us. What a great day for bear viewing! This bear didn't have an extremely pronounced hump on back but side profile picture did show some ridge on his back. My guess a younger bear grizzly based on facial features and the look in the picture above. Zoom in on photo and you can see the face of a hunter evaluating the camera man as meal (ME!) Thankfully the roots looked more delicious.
